Inaugural Australian Children’s Play Summit

In May 2012, Play for Life, in partnership with Play Australia (the Australian representative body of the United Nations International Play Association) will be hosting the inaugural Australian Children’s Play Summit in Melbourne. The first of its kind in Australia, the Play Summit will bring together primary school children over a two day period to discuss something not only very dear to their hearts but also a vital and key component to their human development – PLAY.

We are pleased to announce that on the 17th of May, at the Melbourne Town Hall a select number of Victorian primary school students, will gather together as representatives of their broader community, to become student delegates of the Play Summit and take part in developing the first stages of Australia’s very first Play Charter, by children, for children. The manifesto will be formally delivered to Play Australia in a Closing Ceremony at Government House, hosted by the Governor of Victoria, The Hon. Alex Chernov AC QC and his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Chernov, the Patron of Play for Life on May 18th.

The 2012 Children’s Play Summit is the very first of it’s kind ever held in Australia. Unlike many other OECD countries, Australia to date does not have a Children’s Play Charter in support of the United Nations Convention on Children’s Rights - article 31, therefore this event will be history in the making!
