DESCRIPTION:                   The Play Australia\n \n \n
"Adventures in Play Space Design" Series\n \n \n
Topic: with Ric McConaghy\n \n \n Date: Thursday
  30th April 2026\n \n \n Time: 1:00pm (Sydney\, Me
 lbourne & Canberra)\n \n \n Recommended for Local
Government\, Play Space designers and manufacturer
s\, risk assessors and interested community member
 s. \n \n \n This series will provide a forum for s
howcasing the work of our members and a vehicle fo
r improving play space design in Australia. \n \n
 \n Introducing Ric McConaghy:\n \n \n \n \n \n \n
Ric spent the vast majority of his last three to f
our decades working intimately with communities\,
providers\, carers and children to create spaces f
or exploration\, interaction and discovery usually
within a naturalistic setting. He seeks to create
challenges for physical\, emotional\, social and
imaginative engagement. He has been a committed an
d active advocate for children's rights and inclus
ion since the mid 1980's and contributed significa
ntly to the development of the General Comment iss
ued by the UNCRC the Child's Right to Play. \n \n
\n \n He has been a fierce advocate for inclusion
that extends well beyond access and affords the op
portunity for experience and engagement for all wh
o visit the spaces he creates. He believes in genu
ine engagement with those for whom the spaces are
being designed and is convinced that the spaces ar
 e better for all for that engagement.\n \n \n \n O
ver the decades he has worked enthusiastically wit
 h many first nations\, cultural\, inclusive\, heri
tage\, educators and nature representatives to mak
e spaces that not only are fun to be in and return
to\, but also reflect the values\, and share the
narratives\, of those people and places. He often
takes an active and experienced role (given the op
portunity) during the construction phase to create
a shared sense of enthusiasm and attention to det
ail amongst contractors\, suppliers\, providers an
d artists to work collaboratively to deliver a spe
cial place for the client and community they are w
 orking for. \n \n \n \n Ultimately\, he is convinc
ed that if you put play\, engagement and passion i
nto all aspects of the creation of the space then
that is what will offer for those that visit ... a
 nd a few surprises besides. \n \n \n \n  \n \n
