What is a Play Provocateur? Challenging the Future of Play at IPA Play Conference 2025!

At the IPA Asia Pacific Play Conference 2025, we’re not just here to talk about play, we’re here to challenge the way we think about it. That’s why every session will feature a Play Provocateur! They're a thought-leader who will spark debate, push boundaries, and inspire fresh perspectives on play’s role in urban planning, education, health, and beyond.

A Play Provocateur is more than just a speaker. They are catalysts for change - leaders who disrupt conventional ideas, ask the hard questions, and encourage us to reimagine the role of play in society.

They will challenge us to consider:

  • Are we designing cities that truly allow children to play freely?
  • Has our obsession with safety come at the cost of development and resilience?
  • Can play be a tool for climate action and community healing?
  • Are schools undervaluing play as a legitimate learning tool?

What to Expect from Our Provocateurs

Each session at the Play conference starts with a provocation - a bold question or statement designed to ignite conversation and critical thinking. Our provocateurs, along with expert panelists, will dive deep into these challenges, sharing their work, questioning assumptions, and inspiring action.

But this isn’t a passive event, you are part of the conversation. Every session will capture reflections and insights from participants, feeding into the final Conference Play Agenda, a roadmap for future advocacy and collaboration across the Asia Pacific.
