Dear Valued Play Australia Member...
Play Space February 2026

Whoa!!!  The year is now fully with us, and summer tans are fading as fast as a child on a slippery slide!! ( too goofy???)

Our little team of three part time people - Robyn, Peter and Patricia are still scratching our heads as to where our summer holiday went, but we are all back at work now and ready to embrace 2026!

In 2026, Robyn and Pete are working 4 and 3 days respectively, and Patricia works a flexible 8 hours per week. The office is closed on Fridays in 2026.

Thank you to members for the lovely feedback in regard of our re- branding of E-News last month and your support of our events calendar (https://www.playaustralia.org.au/civicrm/event/list?reset=1).

Bookings are filling for lots of events so please take a look. Do not forget you can also access our online learning and re-listen to webinars https://play-australia.thinkific.com/

This week we are loading up Helle Nebelong’s presentation onto the online platform that launched our 2026 calendar so stay tuned for that!

Last week we had Marion and Jorges join us on Wednesday 4th for a webinar on how young children creatively redefine and subvert play spaces in early childhood centres (yep! We recorded it) and the list of great presenters every week from now on just keeps inspiring!!

In the meantime, if you have news or find something interesting to share with members send to memberservices@playaustralia.org.au

Yours Playfully

Robyn, Pete and Patricia

Child Friendly Urban Spaces

The “Child friendly urban SPACES” guide by WHO, UNICEF and UN-Habitat launched on January 21, 2026.

Sudeshna Chatterjee, a good friend of Play Australia, was lead researcher and author, and the work is built on decades of research, and good practice on child friendly planning, urban design, policies and programs from the global north and south.

The guide introduces the SPACES framework to support more inclusive, greener and healthier urban environments for every child. It brings together evidence, principles and real-world city examples from diverse contexts, including planned, informal and crisis-affected settings, to show how even small-scale interventions in streets, parks, schoolyards and neighbourhoods can transform children’s everyday lives.

The guide is intended for local and national governments, urban planners and designers, civil society organizations, community leaders and all partners committed to making cities truly child-friendly. By using SPACES, decision-makers can plan investments, shape policies and mobilize partnerships that expand safe, quality public spaces where children can play, learn, socialize and thrive.
