Brendon’s play research commenced over a decade ago, when the ‘Lunchtime Enjoyment Activity and Play’ (LEAP) intervention research from his PhD was released.

This session will discuss some of the primary school-age findings and insights relating to loose parts provisions that have emerged from his educational research.

The LGA Connect session will feature special guests from Sports New Zealand. They will be discussing their programs that contribute to the wellbeing of everybody in Aotearoa New Zealand by leading an enriching and inspiring Play, Active Recreation and Sport system.

Hear from Peta, Ellie and Cat as they share how they are working to grow Community Play Streets in New Zealand. Their presentation will be followed by time for Q&A. ‌

Andrew Reedy, Director, Play Check WA, Life Member of Play Australia and Chair of the Standards Committee, will outline the key risk management and design issues as detailed in Australian Standards.

Dr Jenny Veitch will present findings on ProjectPARK, a comprehensive 3-year project funded by the Australian Research Council that examined park features most important for encouraging children, teens, and older adults to visit parks and be active and social during their park visits.

This presentation will provide practical guidance on features to prioritise in park (re)developments to optimise park use for specific age groups.

A common misconception is that being outdoors equates to being sustainable, yet sustainability is much more complex.

The intent of this session with Dr Sue Elliott is to provoke some questioning and provide strategies to deepen understandings of the links between sustainability, education for sustainability and outdoor play spaces.

Both theoretical and practical insights will be shared in light of the urgent global climate challenges we face.

Our Online Learning Series is offered to Members for free and is an important opportunity to share knowledge across the sector, offering expert advice and information.
