Melbourne October 2015 www.aila.org.au/thispubliclife
The festival will explore public life through three key themes: Life + Death, Love + Longing and Participation + Spectacle. Combining industry and public city wide events, including but not limited to a conference, research summit, Australasian Design Competition, exhibitions and installations, bringing together thinkers and practitioners from the arts and sciences to address the critical design challenges of our time.
In order to extend our conversations to the broader public a curated special public event titled ‘Play in the City’ is planned.
Play in the City
Join with our special guests in a lively panel discussion as we explore the future of play in the city; from childhood, through to school age children, teenagers, and adults.
What constitutes play and what’s its value in the twenty first century? How does urban play constitute shared public memory? What are the physical, philosophical and psychological benefits of play and can it increase empathy?
