An exploration of Children’s Physical Literacy, Risk and Active Play

Presenters: Professor Lisa Barnett and Alethea Jerebine, Deakin University.

Join us to hear Lisa and Alethea share their findings on physical literacy, risk and active play for children.

Learn what the concept of physical literacy is and the Australian Physical Literacy Framework. Lisa will outline the development of the Physical Literacy in Children Questionnaire and current research using the novel pictorial survey. Alethea will discuss findings from her research investigating parent attitudes towards risk and injury in children’s physical activity and play in Australia, and the framing of risk and play in Australian primary schools.

Lisa is a Professor in Physical Activity and Health at the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition at Deakin University and Past-President of the International Motor Development Research Consortium. 

Alethea Jerebine is a PhD student focussing on understanding the social, cultural, and institutional factors that shape the understanding of ‘risk’ in children’s active physical play, including parental attitudes and wider societal norms and expectations around health and safety policies in schools.
