Play for Life was established in 2010 and is founded on the critical role of lifelong play. We aim to ensure that play is part of all Australians’ lives, regardless of age, location or circumstance. Based on Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, Play for Life’s vision is to advance the right of all children and young people to access free play and to see play valued and conserved in their lives as they grow into adulthood.

We use play to initiate important, innovative and effective social change projects, with a focus on disadvantaged children and youth (5 – 18 years) and the communities that they live in. Our flagship program is Creating Positive Playgrounds in Schools, an intensive culture-change program that works with teachers and students in primary school settings to improve their experience of school and also their education outcomes through play. The Program features the Play for Life POD, a modified shipping container or ‘pod’ that is full of recycled, high quality, loose parts play materials - anything from old car tyres to cardboard tubing, milk crates, steering wheels. The Pod is delivered into schools to enhance self- directed, creative play and is supported by professional development for school leaders and teachers. Applicants should demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding the importance of play in the lives of children and young people.

All applicants must be able to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills. Successful applicants will have the energy and drive to develop and facilitate rich play environments whilst advocating the important principals and skills of playwork to a wide range of professional audiences.
