Introducing Teina Boyd and Tiffiany Williams

Teina Boyd is an accessibility advisor at Tauranga City Council, working to embed accessibility into the systems, policies, and decisions that shape our communities. Her work focuses on driving meaningful change – from influencing design and planning to challenging processes that create barriers for disabled people. She is passionate about creating communities where everyone feels they belong, with a strong focus on inclusion, equity, and real-world impact.

Tiffany Williams is a PhD-qualified public health professional with fifteen years of experience delivering innovative, community-focused projects across Australia, Vanuatu, and Aotearoa New Zealand. As Play Advocate at Tauranga City Council, she combines research, community insights, and cross-sector collaboration to help create more inclusive and playful environments.

Teina and Tiffany's presentation will look at Creating inclusive play spaces is a growing priority and enclosing playgrounds is recognised as one way to support greater access and participation for disabled children and young people, including those who are neurodivergent. In this session, we’ll explore Tauranga City Council’s journey to increase the distribution of fully fenced play spaces across a regional New Zealand city, from reviewing the evidence to navigating complex decision-making and community collaboration. Through practical examples, lessons learned, and opportunities for reflection, participants will gain insights they can hopefully apply in their own work and communities.
