Core Cultural Learning Course

We'd like to extend an opportunity for you to obtain access to an online First Nations education and awareness development program developed by the AIATSIS – the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. Specifically, the Core cultural learning course.

This is a self-paced, online course for individuals that is made up of 10 modules to be completed by set dates. The course aims to contribute to collective understanding and awareness of the vast history and cultural heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The program is designed to encourage people to understand their own cultural perspectives as the basis for effective interactions with people of (other) diverse backgrounds.

Register with Play Australia

The course generally requires 10 or more participants to proceed. To accomodate smaller groups and individuals interested in this training, we'd like to offer our members the opportunity to register directly with us to meet the minimum participant requirement. Once registered through Play Australia, we'll enroll you in the course on your behalf. Play Australia team members and some Board will also participate.

Yarning circles

The Core training program encourages self-organised discussion groups amongst enrolled participants. Those working through the modules at their own pace may come together periodically with their colleagues for a reflective yarn about the content and their learning experiences.

Play Australia will set up some free online yarning circles to support our enrollees, commencing with one in December 2024, then resuming in February 2025 and planned according to the needs of the group. Participation in yarning circles is not compulsory but will be helpful for those of us working through the modules and relieve isolation.

The direct cost per individual is $90 plus GST ($99). Play Australia is not making any profit from the fee and it will be paid directly to cover the course cost.
